BERNINA University 2010: Innovation and Inspiration

Last weekend I attended BERNINA University, BERNINA’s annual convention for Dealer’s, located in Orlando, Florida this year.  In this four day event, Dealers learn about new sewing machine products and accessories, gain insights on sales and business management, take creative classes, and socialize and learn from other Dealers. This year’s theme “Innovation Celebration” was kicked off with an extravagant performance of dancers and singers in dazzling costumes. The catchy tune of the opening song is still stuck in my head. The real excitement came from the audience when the sleek and fresh looking 3 Series machines were introduced. One Dealer excitedly whispered to her friend “It looks like the IPod of Sewing Machines!” The 3 Series machines are not only visually appealing, their ease of use and long list of machine features are truly innovative for an entry level sewing machine. Another gasp of awe, especially among the younger Dealers came when the new DesignSkins technology was presented on stage. On the DesignSkins website consumers can choose from hundreds of designs or even upload their own photos to create a “skin” for their sewing machine.
